I CHING - The Book of Changes

The I Ching is a system of symbols (hexagrams) that identifies order in what seem like chance events.

Its fundamental ideas are the dynamic balance of opposites, the evolution of events as a process, an acceptance that everything in the universe is continually changing and within the changes.

It is Widely consulted in the East and the West. We have copyright to a valid minimal translation

The I Ching has been 'done' before. All applicarions developed so far leave the moment of decision to the software. By using the Lotto engine, user choice comes into play. This is in keeping with the traditional methods of divination: coins or yarrow stalks. In this app, the user presses and holds down a button to set the 'coins' spinning and lets it go to stop.

The moment of 'fate' could be further enhanced by allowing a short random time after the user lets go the button.

About The Book of Changes
..the world's oldest book

More than a book, it's an Oracle.
and, it works like a game.

Used throughout Asia for thousands of
years to predict events and advise on all aspects of daily life.
...By lovers, politicians,
professionals, farmers, workers, monks,
artists, traders, and warriors...

Same goes today!

Even in the West.

From Jung to Hippies to New Age
to Mainstream, there are now millions of I Ching enthusiasts in Western countries.

How it works:

As if approaching a great Sage, form the question in the heart and feel for the moment to cast the coins.

Three coins are shaken and thrown, like dice. As they fall, it is believed the Universe influences the spin and therefore the result - heads or tails.

This is repeated six times, recorded as either a dash or a line. That's not all - there are different values for each combination of three coins.

There are 64 possible "hexagrams".

Each hexagram zones in on an aspect of human nature. The reading is personalised by the 'moving lines' and advice given for each.

Does it work?

During World War 2, it is said that Admiral Yamomoto consulted the iChing before every campaign, including Pearl Harbour.
Then they sacked him ....and promptly started losing the Naval War in the Pacific.

Most people use it for day to day matters:

Should I trust my lawyer? My life is in chaos- what is happening? Can I study music despite family opposition?

Chinese, Japanese and Koreans take the I Ching seriously - it's a soothsayer and a game of the highest order, soaked in Taoist philosophy.

They will respond well to an excellent interpretation that shows respect for, and understanding of the Tao.

We have used the Wilhelm translations with concise contemporary commentaries.

The Engine:

The element of pure chance is important. Each virtual coin has its own random engine that starts and stops with a keystroke.
The moment of release is manual. Not automated, as in other iChing apps. This is a major refinement.
According to the Tao, consciousness pervades everything, including the play of electrons in a random number generator.

I Ching masters will be interested to examine if this approach to divination works alongside traditional methods.

Our iCHING can be used with real coins to decode and offer a succinct reading. With a space to text results...essential.

The Market:

China is re-discovering her traditions.

The I Ching is an integral part of Feng Shui. Both are now legal in mainland China.

18 out of 20 Japanese commuters use Mobile apps on the way to work.

They'll all be asking the iChing about the day ahead.
It's a 4000 year old marketing campaign.
The demand already exists.

To consult the I Ching you need a book, some coins, a pen and a notepad.

....or a Mobile.
